Taking the plunge into the blogging world...
Even though we only had a few flakes this week, I seem to have been surrounded by references to snow.
Firstly our book group is reading The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey - I'm enjoying it, the descriptions are so evocative.
Secondly, our first attempt to visit the Narnia Experience in St. George's Hall in half-term last week was thwarted - we didn't want to wait 4 hours before the next free slot, so we went to the Walker Art Gallery. They're showing a selection of prizewinners of the John Moores Prize, and one of my favourites was a painting by Peter Doig - Blotter. On the link it looks very pink, but its much whiter in real life. Never heard of him before, but it really mesmerising (for me at least). A huge selection of pictures in the gallery - there's bound to be something you'll like.
We did make it to Narnia a few days later, through the wardrobe into - yes you guessed it - everlasting winter. We became Lucy for the duration, and particularly liked the performances by the housekeeper, Mr Tumnus & Mrs Beaver (and their cottages).
And finally I watched Snow White & the Huntsman on DVD at the weekend - great in parts, particularly the dwarves - sets of dwarves are ten-a-penny at the moment what with the Hobbit (fantastic film) & this one- and other effects, less convincing in others.
I'm one of those people that likes snow when its fresh & crispy, and no travelling is involved; I live on a sloping non-gritted road that becomes an ice rink very easily. So frankly I'm quite happy that Liverpool doesn't get a lot!
